network/(x)moji collections

hosted here are decendants of the first japanese emoji sets produced by softbank and docomo in the late 90's.
a decade later, it was common to see these 20x20 animated pixels on blogs and personal sites.

most of this collection can be found on emojibank.

as the chronic websurfer and weaboo that i was in the late 00's, i was greatly interested in what was happening on the japanese web. i spent hours clicking through ameblo/petitmall blogs and personal fc2 sites. (RIP)

although i couldn't understand the text on my screen, i still understood the feelings of the author which inspired me to incorporate this form of communication so that everyone that stumbled across my presence online could understand at least a little bit of me.

i began collecting these pixels to use in emails, livejournal entries, and forums. unfortunately, i lost access to my first collection after the family computer was thrown out.

then i joined tumblr sometime in the early to mid 10's where i saw a new generation of these emojis! in full animated glory!!
but i also lost access to this second collection after the new family computer bricked itself.

which brings us to today. to my relief, i wasn't the only one interested in these emojis, so many collections remain on tumblr and most of the newer generation has been archived on emojibank.

i love these little guys and simply want to share their cuteness. enjoy!
